Job Title:                   Compliance Manager

Reporting to:           Head of Compliance



The Role

The Compliance Team sits in Moorwand’s second line defence and is responsible for assisting the business in ensuring its ongoing compliance with legal and regulatory requirements


The Compliance Manager will play a key role in providing advice to the business, monitoring regulatory developments, shaping policy and conducting evidence based reviews on the design and effectiveness of our control framework (not limited to financial crime prevention)


There is also a broad advisory part of this role, applying your experience and using initiative to overcome obstacles and assist product development, as well as applying a risk-based and pragmatic approach to building and continuously improving operational processes. There is scope to shape this role with your experience and develop your own expertise, as we scale




  • Moorwand is an established UK based EMI, headquartered in London
  • We operate a hybrid working policy, expecting two days per week in the office
  • Due to the nature of the role, it is likely that occasional travel in the UK and Europe may be necessary conduct onsite client reviews



Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking internal control reviews, ensuring policy and procedures are appropriately designed and evidencing they are adhered to and operating effectively
  • Assisting with the development of external testing and third party assurance. Leading engagements, assessments and report writing
  • Developing risk assessments, monitoring plans, policies and procedure reviews, escalations
  • Providing compliance-related guidance and advice across the business on regulatory matters, product design and controls
  • Creating and maintaining documentation and templates to aid business functions
  • Reviewing internal policy and documentation, performing gap-analysis against regulatory guidance
  • Providing mentoring and training to team members
  • Horizon scanning – reviewing regulatory and scheme updates and requirements, performing gap and impact analysis, communicating and assisting with changes
  • Quality assurance and support for operational teams



Skill and Experience

  • Excellent oral and written skills – comfort engaging with all stakeholders, from new members of staff, clients, the Board etc
  • Practitioner level experience in payments and/or compliance, with a working knowledge of relevant regulations
  • Experience in a second-line function, or working closely with one
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to juggle priorities and a variety of tasks
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Inquisitive and keen to learn, with an interest in the payments industry and its developments
  • Comfort working with legal and regulatory text and the ability to extract key themes and translate into practical working instructions and provide guidance
